E.S.A. STEWARDSHIP SET-ASIDE
We have built up the knowledge and expertise to formulate seed mixtures for the above schemes and set out below some of the factors which must be taken into account.
ENVIROMENTALLY SENSITIVE AREAS
The seed mixtures for E.S.A.'s have to be carefully formulated to ensure that they enhance the landscape and add to the wildlife value of the land. The species mix must match the surrounding grassland, the resultant sward must be palatable and easy to manage. Individual species must not be over-dominant otherwise they will swamp the less vigorous grasses and wild flowers. Your Project Officer may require the inclusion of Local Provenance Wild Flower Seed to widen the diversity of species. We harvest from several sites along the South Downs and are therefore in a unique position to supply Local Provenance Seed.
STEWARDSHIP SCHEMES
Increasing areas of High and Low weald are coming under the Stewardship umbrella. Whether you are re-creating a Meadow or laying down a 2m or 6m Arable Margin, we can formulate a grass seed mixture to satisfy the requirements of your Project Officer. Enhancement with the Local Provenance Seed we harvest under the Weald Meadows Initiative can add to the species diversity required under the scheme.
SET-ASIDE
Sown with our specific SET-ASIDE grass/clover mixture, rather than allowing natural regeneration, weed invasion can be reduced, making maintenance cheaper and easier. Clover content is limited by the Stewardship Scheme rules to 5% by weight of the seed mixture, except for organic farmers an those in organic conversion.
